It’s hard to believe that Discover Alexandria has just wrapped up two years of touring in Old Town. We started our walking tour company in July 2016 with a few signature tours: Sweet History, Discover Alexandria, and Virginia is for Runners. Since our opening, we’ve added 8 other tours and have customized several others upon request for our visitors.
Not only have we been able to offer a greater variety for visitors coming to Alexandria, we’ve expanded our team to include three fantastic local guides. Each guide lives in Alexandria and can certainly be considered an expert in local history (and restaurant recommendations). Like true Alexandrians, the Discover team kicked off the beginning of our third year with a delicious dinner at Virtue Feed & Grain.
So what should you expect from Discover Alexandria in the future?
We are always looking for new ways to improve our tours, learn more about the city, and reach a greater number of visitors. We have been fortunate that in the last two months we began a partnership with the National Women’s History Museum that is located here in town–although they’re hoping to have a museum in DC someday soon. Thanks to our work with the Museum, we are now offering a “Women of Civil War Alexandria” tour where a portion of the proceeds go to benefit the museum.
It is our goal for the next year to seek out other local partnerships to broaden our knowledge of the area and work to bolster those institutions that keep history alive in Old Town.
We hope to tour with you soon. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to email@example.com.
